Frequently asked questions

Which vaccinations do I need for a long-haul trip?

It depends on the destination, route, length of stay and your vaccination status. Routine vaccinations per STIKO are always the basis. For many tropical destinations the German Federal Foreign Office also recommends hepatitis A and, depending on your trip, typhoid, hepatitis B, rabies or Japanese encephalitis. Some countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination on entry. The check above shows the details per country.

Where can I get a yellow fever vaccination in Germany?

Only at officially approved yellow fever centres. These include many travel clinics, tropical institutes and some public health offices. The vaccination is certified in the international certificate and is valid for entry from day 10 after vaccination.

Does German health insurance pay for travel vaccinations?

For private trips, travel vaccinations are not a standard benefit of statutory health insurance. Many insurers do reimburse all or part of the cost as a voluntary benefit. Check with your insurer before the appointment.

How do practices get into the directory?

Basic listings come from publicly available Google Places data (as of Oct 2026) and were strictly filtered: we only include facilities whose name clearly refers to travel medicine, yellow fever vaccination, tropical medicine or a vaccination clinic. Practices can claim, update or remove their listing.
